Advocacy Priorities
FASSTT advocates for trauma-focused, culturally safe and human rights-based policies that uphold the dignity and wellbeing of survivors of torture and refugee trauma. Our advocacy is grounded in the experiences of the individuals, families and communities we walk alongside. We are driven by the belief that healing must be supported not just at an individual level, but across systems, communities and society.
FASSTT’s advocacy priorities focus on creating a more just, inclusive and trauma-informed Australia. These priorities include:
- Ensuring long-term access to specialised torture and trauma recovery services
- Embedding trauma-informed practice across mainstream systems (health, housing, education, justice, settlement)
- Promoting refugee-led and peer-informed approaches
- Upholding the rights of asylum seekers and those with uncertain visa status
- Advancing intersectional inclusion (LGBTIQA+, disability, statelessness)
We engage with governments, service sectors, and communities to ensure that survivors’ voices shape both policy and public narratives.
