What FASSTT Agencies Do?
FASSTT agencies provide trauma-focused, culturally responsive services to support the recovery and wellbeing of survivors of torture and refugee-related trauma. These services are with individuals, families and communities, and include:
-
Individual and family support
Including trauma-informed counselling, psychological assessments and tailored therapeutic support.
-
Group programs
Focused on emotional wellbeing, connection, safety and shared healing.
-
Youth-focused initiatives
Providing safe spaces for young people to connect, build confidence and explore identity.
-
Complementary therapies
Including creative therapies, body-based practices and other culturally appropriate healing approaches.
-
Community engagement and capacity building
Supporting refugee communities to rebuild connection, foster leadership and strengthen healing and belonging.
Building Capacity Across Systems
Healing also depends on the systems that surround survivors. FASSTT agencies work with communities and service providers to ensure the broader Australian society can play an active role in supporting recovery and inclusion.
This includes:
- Training and professional development for service providers across health, mental health, education, housing and settlement sectors
- Research and practice development
- Interagency collaboration and case consultation
- Systemic advocacy to government and decision-makers.
FASSTT plays a vital role in ensuring that the voices and needs of survivors of torture and trauma, particularly refugees and asylum seekers, are heard and addressed across all levels of public policy and service design in Australia.
